If you know someone who does CrossFit, the high-intensity fitness training we take pride in Set Free, then you’ve probably joked about them being part of a cult.
For many years, we’ve heard about such responses, despite our detailed explanation of how the training has changed the lives of our clients and how it can change their lives, too! Even during these times when there’s a proliferation of CrossFit gyms in Singapore, we still encounter people who we would explain to the benefits of CrossFit.
I guess some things would never really change and explaining what we do to close-minded people is part of our life as personal fitness coaches in Singapore.
We’re even guessing that the reason you’re reading this article is that you’re also sceptic about what CrossFit is all about. Hence, in this article, we explain a few of the many reasons why everyone loves the exercise at Set Free.
What CrossFit is Not
To set your expectations, you should know that there’s not much glitz-and-glamour about CrossFit. The facilities, are in fact, almost bare, often converted from an auto body workshop or other defunct manufacturing spaces. Mirrors are usually absent and the conventional gym amenities are non-existent.
What’s more, unlike other gyms with a monthly subscription fee of at least $20, CrossFit isn’t cheap and you could find yourself paying $150 or more every month.
What CrossFit is
Now that fees and amenities are crossed out, here are a few of the many reasons that make CrossFit loved by many.
Physical Results. Because it’s a high-intensity exercise, CrossFit guarantees results that greatly differ from moderate-intensity workouts. In fact, one study shows that a person who does a high-intensity exercise for at least 20 minutes can lose 9 times the fat those who exercised at moderate intensity for 45 minutes can.
Social. Intense workouts bind groups of people. In CrossFit, you go all-out with half a dozen people and every time you succeed in something, it doesn’t merely lend a sense of accomplishment but a victory. Out of that win comes gratitude, which will only make you stronger as part of a pack.
Community. A similar point to the first, you’ll probably notice the buzz that exists during CrossFit events. It’s present among the crowd, and the athletes themselves. It’s evidence that CrossFit builds a community that, along with the weights and the burpees, makes you a stronger and healthier person.
We don’t know about you, but CrossFit is more than being a cult that it’s been labelled with. But, of course, for you to confirm this, it’s best to take this journey yourself and trust us when we say that you’re doing it for your own wellbeing, purpose, and discovery.
Your journey starts here. Come explore CrossFit and join us at Set Free!
