CrossFit is not a typical workout routine. Having been a trending topic in Singapore these days, you’ve probably known by now that it’s not for everybody. But at least you want to give it a try!
However, before anything else, you probably have a lot of questions about CrossFit. So, to save you from research, we answer some of the frequently asked questions you, along with others, have long been wanting to ask.
1. What is CrossFit?
CrossFit is a dynamic program that factors in exercise and nutrition to increase fitness and health for people of all ages and strength. The program typically consists of a series of rigorous exercises that produce observable results. You can do CrossFit with a licensed trainer or in a CrossFit gym in Singapore called boxes.
2. How often in a week should I do CrossFit?
A typical CrossFit workout recommends a work out of 5 times a week, following a schedule of working out 3 days straight and taking a day off. This is to allow muscle regrowth and the body to recover from the extensive training. Each class can last for about an hour, from start to finish.
3. Is CrossFit recommended for beginners?
Any qualified CrossFit gym offers a series of introductory classes for beginners before they can join the regular program. Often called on-ramp classes, beginners will be introduced to the fundamentals of the program including what’s it about and what you’ll likely be doing in the first few sessions.
4. Do I need to be in shape prior to joining the program?
While the workouts in CrossFit are intense, you don’t necessarily have to build up your shape prior to joining. It’s because your workout will be modified to fit your level of fitness and it’s only when you progress when you can jump into a higher level of intensity.
5. What’s a typical CrossFit WOD?
Your workout of the day (WOD) largely depends on your trainer or the CrossFit gym you are in. For instance, you’ll either warm up as a group or on your own. After the warm-up, you’ll then get started to work, often with weightlifting, squatting, deadlifting, or push-ups.
With CrossFit, it’s nearly impossible to predict when you’ll see progress as bodies respond differently to workouts. What’s more, it will also depend on your commitment and on your consistency in training.
