To minimize the risk of injury during a ballet dancer workout, it's best to prepare your body using a good ballet warm-up. It is not because of inexperienced. In reality, even seasoned and talented dancers often warm up before dance lessons or performances. Ballet dancing is a strenuous activity after all. That is exactly the reason why it is considered as a good fitness routine.

Warmup increases the temperature of the body and keeps your muscles, ligaments, and joints loose. It is a way to brace your body before a physical activity such as practising ballet. It also significantly lowers your risk of injury.

Now, how should you do a ballet warmup?

The warmup before a ballet dancers workout is a mixture of breathing exercises and stretchings. You can start with body stretching, which comprises of simple movements to encourage good blood circulation. Prancing

Prancing is a complex warm-up that helps ready the body for greater movements. To do this stunt, gently bring your feet up and down in a prance-like gesture. Keep your knees soft as you rotate around using your foot until you land on the carpet. Prancing should be done in place for several minutes.

Barre Rise Exercise

This stunt makes use of tennis balls to support the feet while maintaining a tip-toe position. It is the most common form of a warmup for ballet classes in Singapore.

Butterfly stretches

The first thing to do in a butterfly stretch is to bring the soles of your feet together. Next is to for a butterfly wing by bending your knees. After that, you will need to pull your heels inward and up to stretch your hips and pelvic muscles.

Breathing exercises

Breathing exercise is a crucial part of ballet warmup. Before doing any stunt, make sure you are practising a couple of deep breathing exercises so enough oxygen will enter your body.
